Marcus Hale edits Geek With Laptop. For most of his working life he has been the person friends, family and small offices call when a laptop will not connect to the TV, a battery dies by lunchtime, or a new machine has to be chosen on a budget. The guides here are what he writes down afterwards, so the same problem never has to be solved from scratch twice.
How he tests a guide. Every how-to is worked through on a real laptop before it is published, following only the written steps. If a step needs extra explanation, the step is rewritten. Where menus differ between Windows, macOS and ChromeOS, each path is checked separately, and where a fact depends on the model or the year, the page says so instead of guessing.
What he checks before a page goes live. Menu paths and key combinations against the current operating system release; numbers against a named source with a year; and every claim about safety or health against published research rather than forum lore. Each guide ends with a Sources list linking the manuals, standards and studies it relies on, so readers can check the work.
Where he draws the line. No affiliate links, no sponsored reviews and no software downloads. The password recovery guide covers regaining access to your own machine only. Pages about AI writing tools and detectors describe how the tools behave and what the research shows; they do not recommend or sell any product.
About the name. Marcus Hale is the editorial name used for this site since its 2026 relaunch under new ownership. He is not the original 2008 author of geekwithlaptop.com, and the site is not affiliated with that author, as the about page and site history explains.
